To gain momentum and let your helicopter lift up, press the left mouse button. To change direction just move your mouse. There is a 3 second countdown running at the beginning. When the starting signal appears, you have to move. To make your helicopter fly as fast as possible, try to move your mouse as close as possible on the brink of the screen. But be careful: You will not always fly straight ahead. The different circuits are full of tunnels or curves. The arrows appearing on your screen will show you the way. Be careful not the damage your helicopter on hills or mountaintops.
